Beautiful Killarney is not a "tourist trap" in February. It is a lovely, peaceful town that you can pop in and out of shops and pubs, and find perfect accommodations at your leisure. After we hopped off the train, a quick walk to town center we were whisked away on a beautiful "jaunting ride" behind a Emma the horse drawn carriage. Johnny steered us around the Killarney National Park with wit and charm, sharing so many astonishing details and views with us. It was the perfect way to get a quick view of the vast and lush land, park, and history surrounding Killarney.
Visiting the Ross Castle, the Killarney Garden and House are absolute musts, the included views and vistas make the entire experience rich and balanced with culture and nature. The Killarney House offers a thoughtfully educational, and artfully curated and interactive exhibition sharing the rich history of the land and surroundings.
You could certainly spend several nights soaking up all that Killarney has to offer. It is a lovely place with many great pubs and dining options. We loved to hear live music, both traditional and covers, while hanging with some locals too. Killarney's surrounding areas have much to explore, including more of the Killarney National Park, the Muckross Abbey, House and Gardens which I will feature in my next blog post. Enjoy!
